Morning Gold Fix (MGF) is what metamorphasized out of the noise and
experimentation of Jeremy Tolsma's
Caffeine Charlie's Wake-up Service
(CCWS), in 1994. MGF represented a somewhat more conventional sound,
expanding on some of the principals developed in CCWS, but focusing on
looped beat structures and electronic sound effects, sequences and samples.
While CCWS was known for its long, sprawling noise epics, MGF often
delivered tighly sequenced punchy numbers clocking around 3 minutes or
less, and the addition of oddly chosen found-sound vocal samples
sometimes landed MGF squarely in the novelty camp. At other
times, the short songs almost seem to be unfinished fragmented ideas
that may serve as snapshots into the headspace of its creator.
