3 deck configuration plugged into mixer seated above
The Revolutionary 8-track Mixing System is something that should have happened a long time ago,
but until now apparently nobody thought of the obvious. The idea is simple, collect a few of
those old 8-track cartridge tape decks from the 70s at the local thrift store, and plug them into
a mixer (try to find the smallest ones you can, without radio tuners or record player built into them,
as they take up much less space). After preparing several tapes of mixable tracks, the operator can
punch between the tracks using the 8-track 'program change' technology. Those familiar with the 8-track
system can instantly recognize the vast potential for constantly evolving instantaneous mixes when
several decks are routed through a mixer. Further sonic treatment occurs when cartridges are jostled
while seated in the decks -- the technology allows for a 'hands-on' tactile aspect unavailable in any
other tape technology. Because the 8-track tape resides on an endless-loop spool inside the
cartridge, the mix could go on forever. As long as someone is around to punch between tracks on
the various decks, the mix will always be changing.
